Concert Summary

After a few months of recovery from managerial problems and the sudden departure of drummer Mickey Hart, it's back to the original five piece prototype Dead lineup, with friends, The New Riders of the Purple Sage opening. This concert would conclude the Dead and NRPS's final five-night run of concerts at the Fillmore East.     needless to say , the quality of this recording far surpasses what i had on that vinyl bootleg, but all those scratches , pops and clicks had a certain endearing quality , to me anyway, at the time, but Mr Phil is nice to hear shining thru the mix where he was missing in action on the bootie.

    at last, i have found my favorite version of Cold Rain And Snow, I had parts of this concert on a vinyl bootleg for a long time , but lost it in a storage shed fiasco. it's fat man, it's so frikkin' fat. miss you Jerry.

    The second set from BIODTL through the end is perhaps the most brilliant straightforward GD powerhouse rock-and-roll ever created. The GD sound (and Jerry's guitar) achieved here is singularly unique. It is mind blowingly amazing. For me, this will always be the peak. They never sounded like this before or since (they certainly achieved zillions of other peaks; but just never sounding at all like this.) Trust me when I tell you, this is the real thing. Hold on to your hats!

    Beautiful show, but I always thought the last fill West show was as good. 7/2 If that gets posted check out that Good Lovin, second to none. But this shows Cold Rain > GDTRFB is as good as it gets!!

    Lucky enough to be have been in the house on 2nd ave so many years ago what a soulful sound in Jerry's voice "where have all the people gone today " thanks for sharing this wonderful show & memory I will always cherish
