The Terrapin Station tour marked the Dead's passionate return to creative live offerings after a mid-decade droop in energy. Jerry's voice was just beginning to take on that hint of 'creakiness' which would define his later music. Garcia admitted in a 1991 interview that "... I don't write [songs] unless I absolutely have to... It's like pulling teeth" and recalled only twice that he'd "... actually had a song go bing! ... and once was with Terrapin..." The tour was a huge success, and the ensuing album cover art was drawn by the Kelly/Mouse studio.
