Concert Summary

Fans should cherish this very early recording of Graham Parker & the Rumour recorded at New York's legendary Bottom Line club in Manhattan. This show sold out, largely based on the advance press Parker received from U.S. music critics, who, right or wrong, dubbed him the British answer to Bruce Springsteen.

Parker had been kicking around the dying U.K. pub scene since the early-'70s, doing Stones and Beatles covers by night and working a day job where he bred mice for lab experiments. After a demo tape made it to David Robinson, the president of the new indie label, Stiff Records,…entire summary

One of my favorite shows was John Hiatt (Slugline era)opening for Graham at THe Warfield in SF. John was in whiteface, chasing, and being chased, by a single spotlight. The band was behind a scrim. I thought that Graham would have a hard time beating this, but 30 seconds into the first song, I forgot who had opened. I believe it was the discorvering Japan tour, but I really don't know.

Discovered Graham P at that time, have loved his music since. A great setlist, classics only :-) 2 people claiming that show is from the Nov. 7, 1976 show from The Savoy Tivoli, San Francisco, USA. Sounds likely. Looking forward to many other Parker shows here on Wolfgang’s Vault !

This does indeed look like the Nov. 7, 1976 show from The Savoy. For anyone who doesn't have this show, I strongly recommend it!

Thanks for this great new GP show! Only one thing: It sure isn't from 08.17.1976! GP says Heat Treatment is just out, and that came out 10/76. My guess is that it is this show: Savoy Tivoli, San Francisco, USA, 11/7/1976 (radio broadcast) White Honey / That's What They All Say / Fools' Gold / Turned Up Too Late / Just Something You're Going Through / Pouring It All Out / Back To Schooldays / Hotel Chambermaid / Heat Treatment / Don't Ask Me Questions / Not If It Pleases Me / Help Me Shake It / Soul Shoes // Kansas City / Hold Back The Night Only the last 2 songs are unfortunately missing. Interestingly, 10 years ago I traded tapes with John Howells (the guy that now runs GP's website Squeezing Out Sparks), and he got me a tape with 2 shows, one was the one now streamed. And on John's tape the show also was labeled as a BL show. Seems the mistake now made is an even older one. Johannes
