Interview Summary

Three days into a Jefferson Starship tour in support of their Earth album, and one month before she "quit" the band after a drunken debacle during a concert in Germany, Grace Slick talked on the phone with Patrick Carr for this Direct News interview.

Ironically, much of their chat centers on Grace's stance on alcoholism and her recent four months of abstinence. Also covered here are Grace's unabashed opinions of Jefferson Starship's recent recordings, the state of the band itself, an interesting nugget about oil's power to shape politics, and the story of how the press came…entire summary

grace- cogent and gracious, smart but not sarcastic
this patrick carr- snide (must have had an alcoholic mother), poorly informed (why did you name him god) and rather generally insipid and asinine (do her friends call her china? ever thought of changing her name to nancy?)
maybe he's improved over 20 years.
a nice nostalgic listen, nicer if it was just a one sided set of responses deleting the interviewer. tetodijuneau

Worst. Interviewer. Ever. She's so interesting and honest that it was still good to hear her but my God that guy was bad.

His tone is so interrogative, but Grace Slick is such a straightforward woman, so I think he conducted his voice and questions with a conversational approach. The interview contained in the liner notes of "Collector's Item" by Great Society with Grace Slick is quite interesting, check it out. I think if I were asked to interview her, I'd rather engage in a conversation, which is what she seems to know how to do best.

I am a professional broadcaster, and reckon you have to judge an interview by the information that is elicited. So the interviewer here might seem a bit detached and slow , but he asks incredibly direct questions to Grace and gets painfully honest answers," Do you still take drugs", "How do feel about playing music you don't like?" and we learn from Grace "The only problem I have is getting drunk". So hats off to the interviewer,he did his job well.

    stupid ass interviewer.

An interesting interview for those who are fans of the various Jeffersons, but the interviewer himself is rather irritating. Fortunately, Grace Slick's comments are frank and she speaks at length.

    The interviewer doesn't have a clue-what a numb nuts!
