Goo Goo Dolls

The Goo Goo Dolls were a 1986 in Buffalo, New York invention. The chart-topping rock trio originally called themselves Sex Maggot, but thought again and opted for the tamer Goo Goo. Members of the Goo Goo Dolls included Robby Takac, bassist/ vocalist, John Rzeznik, guitarist/vocalist and drummer George Tutuska, who was later replaced by Mike Malinin. Releasing their debut album in '87, it wasn't until A Boy Named Goo in 1995 that the Dolls hit mainstream success. The album topped American charts with heavy radio play of "Name," and the band continued on the sugary-soft alternative rock trip with a song for the Meg Ryan movie, City of Angels. Their soundtrack contribution was a success, and "Iris" ruled airwaves for the next year and was nominated for three Grammys. The Dolls continued the transformation from rock to pop with Dizzy Up the Girl and have solidified their place in the mild-mannered, department-store-friendly genre.
