Concert Summary

This George Thorogood show from 1988 offers up a solid collection of the blues-rock standard covers that he and his band the Destroyers became known for. By the time this show was recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, Thorogood had already seen the biggest advances in his career. The discs he recorded and released after 1985's Bad to the Bone broke no new ground artistically and didn't seem to increase his audience.

Still, the Delaware native (who had relocated with his band to Boston in 1973), was…entire summary

I went to the Bijou Cafe in Philly in or around 1978. My date did not come so I was sittin at the bar..gettin drunk... I was mad I was alone. I sat next to this really tall guy and was ranting about how good this show was going to be. On and on. Not a word from my friend the tall guy. Suddenly some guy comes up and says, to him, it's time. The guy gets up and says I gotta work now. I was drinkin' bber with GT and did not even know it COOL!!!!!!!!!

A friend turned me on to "Move it On Over" on vinyl and it blew me away. Then we saw him do 2 shows back to back at the Classic Uptown theatre in KC. WOW... Blown away Vol 2..Middle of first show he walks up the middle aisle playing cordless slide right out front door and across the street, while the lead guitarist for the Nighthawks who were playing in town as well switch gigs for a couple songs. They were jamming in the midddle of Broadway as they passed each other. Are you kidding me !!! An Old school rocker that plays like he would perform for free.

This is a great set. My favorite Destroyer show was Oct 3 1982, at the Warfield in SF. a bunch of us went to Candlestick and watched Joe Morgan hit a HR to keep the Dodgers from winning the West, then we hustled to see the show. during the "last call" segment of 1 B,S,B i yelled out Geritol like he did on occasion, and from the stage George looked at me, laughed, and said "ahh ahh, alcohol. threw me a dobro fingerpick at the end which i still have. this was the tour they did by taxi.

Have seen George many times over 20yrs. Same songs but that's why we go. From the start to the end it's non-stop rocking and unlike today the songs are ALL BADASS!!!!!!
