Concert Summary

From a musical point of view, Gentle Giant had the potential to pick up right where the Peter Gabriel-led version of Genesis left off when the frontman left the original lineup in 1975. Unfortunately for Gentle Giant, complex British progressive rock had already peaked and was on its way down, popularity-wise. This, plus the fact that Gentle Giant had never…entire summary

Prog rock at its peak - '70-'74, please, that was the era and this was one of the top five bands of the genre (my preference). The best album, hands down, is not Three Friends, but rather the one before: Acquiring the Taste - holy shit! Now that's an album ('71, of course - who produced a bad LP in 1971?).

The download is different from the online version of the concert....
In my previous post you see the tracks and order of the download version

Great concert and quality download, but the track names/divisions and times are a complete mess! The Advent of Panurge certainly is not there! The first track is an instrumental Introduction which goes into Cogs and Cogs.
This how I think it should be (it was quite a puzzle!):
    1. Introduction - Cogs in Cogs 4:34
    2. Proclamation 4:58
    3. Funny Ways 8:32
    4. The Runaway 3:53
    5. Experience 6:18
    6. So Sincere 9:00
    7. Knots 7:01

Funny Ways-The Runaway-Experience-So Sincere have indeed appeared on the Gentle Giant Live Album 'Playing the Fool' (1977).

Underrated never getting boring music. One of my all-time favorites. This concert is also great and the quality is super.

    Ungodly syncopation.

  • Mulie73@aol.com | Thursday, November 19, 2009 | 1:05 am

The transition from The Runaway to Experience is pure genius.

Derek Shulman's voice is always incredible. This is great stuff! Been a fan for thirty something years and Gentle Giant is still the most awesome band in history. Genesis never came close to this musical phenomenon.
