Concert Summary

From a musical point of view, Gentle Giant had the potential to pick up right where the Peter Gabriel-led version of Genesis left off when the frontman left the original lineup in 1975. Unfortunately for Gentle Giant, complex British progressive rock had already peaked and was on its way down, popularity-wise. This, plus the fact that …entire summary

In the studio they are awful, but live... simply celestial. Favorites: Knots (0:50-1:07) & Funny Ways

My friend and fellow musician Tim, God rest his soul played in a band that opened for Gentle Giant in Virginia in the early 70's. He didn't know much about them, but commented they were "very interesting English band". If that happened to me I would have had musical bragging rights for about 100 years!

dirtfreak: Hi there, the Academy of Music concert at which Gentle Giant opened for Focus was Nov. 1, 1974. I was there, in fact Focus was the band I was there to see, as I didn't know GG yet. But they converted me that night! And Focus was terrific also, of course. A night I still remember fondly, though somewhat dimly due to the passage of time, unfortunately. I'd kill for a recording of Focus' performance that night but sadly I don't think it will ever surface. :-(

What shall I say. Gentle Giant, the best band I've ever seen and heard. I had the privilage to see them twice way back in the 70's in Holland and they blew me away. What musical skin!!! Never heard a band so good as Gentle Giant. Even today I hear quite often LP's of them, they are timeless. Regards from Germany.
