Concert Summary

This show has been counted among the "Holy Grail" items for Genesis fans, as it's rumored to be one of the only professional recordings made on the band's final tour with Peter Gabriel. Recorded on the band's celebrated 1975 Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour, this show features the entire Lamb rock opera, plus an encore of the band's classic 1971 opus, "The Musical Box."

This show, recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, was taken from a tour that was particularly interesting for the fact that …entire summary

As much as this is a priceless classic, please listen to the difference between this January concert and Genesis' April '75 London show........especially Carpet Crawlers, Anyway......songs evolved greatly over the four months and the London show, to my ears, is Gabriel at his finest, both with Genesis and after.

I've love this show for a long time. It's been one of my favorites for years. But I finally became a WVIP Member. The difference in sound quality is absolutly astounding! If you we're unshure weather or not, as Iwas, to become a WVIP Member, like I was, then become one. You will not believe your ears, the difference in sound quality, between listing to music, with standard streaming and the difference you will hear with your WVIP Membership.

Classic Genesis, I missed seeing this tour, did not get turned on to the band until they had already passed through the New York. I saw the first tour without Peter, What a show that was with both Phil and Billy Bruford on drums. I was sorry to see Hackett leave the band, as far as I am concerned that was the end of Genesis as we new and loved them. Too much pop influence and perhaps just trying to fit into the 3 minute air time that radio loves.
I missed the Musical Box show this past year, but saw them tour the last time doing the "black show" of Selling England by the pound! Great show, and all there is since the band is no longer performing these shows.

OK, for all you lunatics raising hell about the Phil Collins at-the-mic pic for the Peter Gabriel-sung Genesis concert: the vault just uses one picture per band. Hence a picture of Duane Allman on an Allman Brothers concert from 1973, after he was dead; or a picture of the 1972 quartet of King Crimson on a 1969 concert. OK?

    Everybody, take a chill pill.

This was Genesis' first Lamb concert in America, they performed the entire album. And they did so before the album had even hit the US shores. So you had a auditorium full of people expecting to hear something from Selling England by the Pound, Trespass, etc. and were treated to something they'd never heard before. Peter Gabriel later would say it was a mistake. However, it sounds like the audience got into it as the concert progressed.

It's a real,REAL absolute bummer that this band doesn't present this to the world again-
In 200 yrs. it will still be genius-I personally would like to thank the most important figure involved here...and that's the fella that hit the record button.

If you want to see this again like you are there- Go see The Musical Box, they recreate The Lamb live on stage. it's a religious experience. Take a look at the You Tube videos. I just saw the show in NJ.

I was never crazy about the "Lamb..." album, but I never missed a chance to see Genesis. I saw them in Philly at the Convention Center...probably one of the worst locations possible for a concert. They also had stage equipment more suitable to a much a smaller venue. But, hey...it was Genesis!!!

I missed Peter's stage antics after that, and it took awhile for Phil to get his stage voice. I did see Genesis after that with Phil in the lead, and musically, it was much tighter and precise. But, I really missed the original.

The original Lamb was, for me, a masterpiece. All that classical / modern wordiness doesn't suit everyone, I love it. Finding these recordings is an unexpected delight. Thanks to all the people who got this audio into such good shape. Truly brilliant. It confirms how good they all were. Despite the famous technical difficulties they had, this sounds like a milestone concert to have experienced. Collins' drumming stands out... he was getting into his peak period here. And Gabriel's vocal is so theatrical, very forceful. And somehow Hackett, Banks and Rutherford all got their wildly varying and interesting sounds onto the stage, and they worked! In 1975! Amazing.
