Concert Summary

When speaking of Galactic, the word is funk, and yet the New Orleans band is certainly musically multi-lingual—conversant as they are in blues, jazz, and good old R&B. On this day in '99, at the second of two appearances at the Mountain Aire Festival in Calaveras County—Mark Twain country—the band uses the interplanetary language of funk and the rhythm of the one to deliver a set that's all fired-up.

Welcoming the crowd back to another day of Mountain Aire, vocalist Theryl DeClouet gives it his best funky Nawlins-style growl. When the band isn't jamming instrumentally, he fronts them,…entire summary

One of the greatest live bands of all time, no one can sit still at a Galactic show

Boy do I miss the Houseman; don't dig the thing that they're doing with the rappers these days...

Ben Ellman is a dang disaster of devastating dimensions... dude. And Rich Vogel is an 88 megawatt flamethrower. There's So much to marvel at here, like the Grand Canyon, or Jessica Alba. With no Greatful Dead or Zappa to supply hard core main line pure uncut jamming (don't even try to say "Fish", they weren't anywhere near this league) I will astroglide into the celestial vastness on Galactic wings. ((Allman Brothers are making an honest effort, tho it's hit or miss. Derek gets sharper and nastier every day!)) Just my puny filthy op ed.

MMMM..didn't know this show even happened, given i was 11, but it's still near my hometown, Jackson, CA. Seen Galactic 4 times now and I hope to make that number at least double. They put on the best show ever, tho this recording may not necessarily transmute that fact.

Love these guys, just wish they'd come to Detroit more often. First saw them at The Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI, with North Mississippi All-Stars opening up... great show. Too bad Theryl "The House Man" DeClouet doesn't sing with them anymore.

Go Go Galactic -- Found them in Dallas at the Gypsy Tea Room and made a DAT recording of them! Excellent musicianship! One of my favorite home tapes!
