About

Foreigner

Foreigner ruled arena rock from the late 1970s to the mid-'80s. Taking its name from the fact that the original members were drawn from both sides of the Atlantic, Foreigner's '77 self-titled debut marked its early transatlantic success. The band's Bad Company-like hard rock on top of no-brainer power ballads served a healthy mix of hit singles. Hits from the debut included "Feels Like The First Time," "Cold As Ice" and "Long Long Way From Home." 1978's Double Vision dished out more solid rock, offering the steamiest tune of the time, "Hot Blooded." Into the '80s, some reshaping within Foreigner took place as a new wave of records faced the new decade. The band's nuts-and-beer sound turned to more contemporary, soft rock staples like synth-washed "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and the ultimate power ballad, "I Want To Know What Love Is." Amid the glitter and fame, Foreigner braved the early '90s but ultimately slid into commercial decline following Agent Provocateur in '84.
