Concert Summary

The late 1960s/1970 Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac is deservedly legendary and the era that began in 1975, with the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, is by far the most commercially successful era, but the time period between the two is often neglected in terms of recognition. Admittedly, this era was full of personnel changes and certainly a transitional time in the…entire summary

It's like I always say, and like they always mis-hear...."how Hi are ya?!" They say fine....Everyone dosed! Everybody wondered why Jeremy went that way until THEY were witnessed to....

Correction: The Whitburn volume referenced above is actually Top Pop Albums 1955-1985.

This is an incredible recording. I do have a bit of confusion regarding it's chronology though. First, The individual who penned the concert summary states "The set ends with an early arrangement of one of Welch's finest contributions, "Hypnotized," soon to become the highlight of the Mystery To Me album. Beginning with a unique guitar intro sequence that was dropped when they recorded it, this is a dreamy, mesmerizing performance that clearly shows the direction the band would continue to pursue." I have Mystery To Me on CD. It is clearly dated 1973, and Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Albums 1955-1975 shows that it debuted on the Billboard Album chart on November 17, 1973. Second, I was under the impression that McVie/Fleetwood asked Buckingham/Nicks to join FW sometime around Christmas, 1974, which would place that event a mere two weeks (roughly) after this concert, as it is dated here. Could it be that this concert actually occurred in December, 1973, rather than 1974?

I saw Mac on this same tour about a month earlier in NYC. They were glorious, but I think Bob Welch was pretty much "spent" after this. Can't sy I blame him after all the legal headaches with the bogus FM that their manager tried to foist on the public. I agree; this was a version of the mighty Mac that never quite got its due. Bob wrote some great material for them the years he was on board. Great to hear this line-up kick it out on this set.

Hi Jimiluv, It is a great version of Hypnotized, but you are mistaken. Tommy Bolin does not play on it, which is why we neglected to say that he did. I know there are things on the web claiming he is on it, but they are incorrect. I don't know where it might be located, but there is an online interview with Bob Welch where someone specifically asked him about Bolin and his reply was that he could not recall Tommy ever playing live with Fleetwood Mac. Does anyone at the Wolfgang Vault realize that Tommy Bolin is featured on track 12 Hypnotized on the 12.15.174 Record Plant? I'm REALLY surprised you guys don't list that little tidbit!!

I have heard alot of stuff and this is some of the best. Solid throughout and such heart to it. Right from the start these guys grab your soul unlike no other.

OK, after listening to this again, I have to say BW did a fine job honoring the past incarnations of the band. Check out bob's "fleetwood mac years and beyond" solo cd of a few years ago. He recut quite a few of his FM songs (and some PG material) as well as some of the early solo material, a la "french kiss." Sadly, no "black book" or "new orleans" from the paris days. Check out bob's website---some very entertaining "rants" as he calls them. Are there any boots of the dave mason touring version of fm? That "time" cd was lame, but I always liked dave.

Wonderful stuff! Saw these guys the same month in NYC---great show, mostly replicated here. However, this recording is missing the BW glorious "Night watch." Great that night! Bob did a great job fronting this band. Sadly, by June there was the "new" FM, and the rest is, well, really another band and sad history. The Danny K and Bob W days were the best for this group. FM is touring again in 09, but sadly, they're not this band. How about an "old-Timers" FM tour with Peter, Jeremy, Bob, Chris, Mick & John? I'll be at THAT one!

My vote for the best Fleetwood Mac *group* also goes to the Bob Welch era band. The studio versions of these songs are amazing but the rap leading into "Future Games" brings this song to new heights. "Coming Home" off the other FM recording about this time (also available on Wolfgang's Vault) also reaches an ethereal status....
