Concert Summary

After distinguishing himself and achieving a level of recognition in Europe, like Eric Clapton before him, Peter Green departed John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, freeing himself of employment and artistic restrictions. However, unlike most of the British guitar greats, Green was never concerned with flash or becoming a guitar superstar - an attitude that made him one of the most compelling of all the British guitar players…entire summary

This is really good! If you like British blues this is it. Most British rock musicians from the 60s
simply loved American blues; they backed American bluesmen when they toured Britain and they went to the US to record their albums. 70% of British rock music from the 60s is more or less influenced by the blues: Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, Them, Spencer Davis Group, Free, Ten Years After, Savoy Brown, Groundhogs, Taste, Chicken Shack and of course Mayall and his bands.. and many more. Little boys love to make a ranking of their favorite guitarists but frankly it's pretty stupid, either you love the music or you don't. It also seems to be cool now to relegate Clapton as a mediocre guitar player but sorry that's pretty ludicrous.

Seen Peter Green & The Mac at the Boston Tea Party in 1969.
This version of Have You Ever Loved A Woman says it all, Peter Green the best white Blues Guitarist ever.
Sorry EC, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Mike Bloomfield.
And the singing an't bad too. What a talent.

Listening to Peter's unique version of "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" is the musical equivalent of discovering the Holy Grail. This song which has been so deeply associated with Eric Clapton and Freddie King is played with jaw-dropping distinction by Greeny. His timing, release and sense of dynamics, make this a version for the ages.

However, as much as I like this I do find it pointless and childish to say it's the best version ever, and that it is evidence that Peter Green is a superior musician to Clapton, Page, Beck and Jimi. Value judgments of this nature are irrelevant because they are entirely subjective. As much as I like Green I also like Clapton, Mick Taylor, Hendrix and Beck, but I don't find the need to rank one ahead of another. They are ALL distinctive and gifted guitarists in their own right and I choose to listen to all of them for their own special qualities. Why is there a need to claim one as the greatest and so much better than anyone else??

@MarkCham Re: "...Page (puke), Beck, Trower I saw them all many times..." Why would you go back to see puke many times if it was indeed, puke? Just to make sure, "Yeah, that is puke alright. I'll even check back next time they are in town to make triply sure it's still puke." With all that puke in your ears, I question your hearing.

Hey brianmoc - so much more than that ( Elmore cover). The version here of Ever Loved A Womam simply smoulders - EC never got close to Pete. BB, Otis Rush acknowledged Peter Green's immense talent and they would know better than any of us.

F Mac rips a great rhythm and groove here. Peter Green is the man. Thanks Wolfgang.

Saw these guys numerous times at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. Peter Green put that group together and it was never the same without him. Clapton, Hendrix, Page (puke), Beck, Trower I saw them all many times and none of them, imo, compared with Greenie. Always clean and crystal clear. They guy was just awesome.

Peter Green is quite simply the greatest living Blues Guitarist.
