Concert Summary

ELP vocalist/guitarist/bassist Greg Lake has often told music journalists that the very first song he learned on guitar at age 12 was Duane Eddy's rock version of the Henry Mancini TV detective theme, "Peter Gunn." That is probably why Emerson Lake & Palmer chose to open their 1977 Works tour.

Although portions of this disc were released as one of the King Biscuit Flower Hour Records releases, this is the complete show of all songs featured when ELP performed the concert in Wheeling, WV. Many of the band's best…entire summary

Carl Palmer does much shorter drum solos these days, but having seen him with Asia this past summer, he hasn't lost anything. Still the "Buddy Rich" of my generation. Greg Lake has a new website up and running for those interested--great stuff. I hope Emerson can get over his health issues-he is one of a kind. Time for a reunion boys. We die-hard fans are aging too!!!!

Just listened to this show again. It is definitely one of the gems of this site. Better than the official live release from a few years earlier
in my opinion. Forget the orchestra just listening to these 3 guys play is enough. Love when they get jazzy on take a pebble. taurkus and pictures are absolute jams on here. Never got a chance to see them but
would like to if it happens.

I've always been grateful for such exceptional fortunate, having been able to witness Works performed live and in full regalia. I saw the concert on what I believe was the second night of the tour, with the orchestra still intact; a perfectly enchanting experience, and that can not be attributed solely to the consumption of illicit substances. ELP took this rock performance to a level never before witnessed - from the excellence of their music to the sophisticated use of technology. I'm just so glad I lived where I did. No one could have predicted that a crowd of Midwestern kids in towns such as Louisville and Cincinnati would be privileged to witness what was otherwise reserved for Madison Square Garden. One word tastefully underscores the music, but having witnessed the full scope of "Works" in live performance, I am forced to reach for another, for this concert was EPIC.

I have the privilege of meeting Keith Emerson this Saturday (8/29/09) in Carlsbad CA at the Museum of Making Music. He will be demonstrating his modular Moog system as part of a program called " Waves of Inspiration-the Legacy of Moog" Wine & cheese "meet & greet" first, then the fun begins!!

An Amazing Concert. I saw them in Columbus during this tour. It was cold out. It was one of the last General Admission concerts. When they opened the doors the crowd moved en masse, my feet didn't touch the ground for fifty yards or more! Three great musicians for certain! Reunion Tour Please!

Hey Anonymous, I saw them in Charleston, WV TOO! I think the year was 1975..I took a hit of LSD before I went so I don't remember too much except Carl Palmer's drum set spinning and Keith's ENORMOUS synthesizer blowing up at the end of Karn Evil 9......it was FANTASTIC!

I was lucky enough to be in the audience at the opening show of this tour in Louisville, Kentucky. The three members were accompanied by an orchestra and a choir. It was one of the absolute best concerts that I have ever seen! There was very good play between the orchestra and the band. One of my highlights was during Fanfare when Keith ran under the stage and began to rise up to stage level with his organ a-blazin', showers of sparks flying from it, Keith rocking it back and forth, forcing the sound out of it. I am getting a buzz just thinking about it!

I was at this concert in 1977. Myself and 2 friends drove from Pittsburgh to see it. My 2 friends had been at the Pittsburgh concert and liked ELP so much they decided to go to this one. They asked me if I wanted to go. We had a great time. It was a great concert and now I can relive the experience on here. After this concert, I went out and bought up their albums. Thank you very much Wolfgang for keeping these concerts and artists alive and available!!!!!
