Concert Summary

David Lee Roth once quipped that most rock critics like Elvis Costello because most rock critics look like Elvis Costello. Here's a show submitted for Diamond Dave's approval, recorded at the Winterland Ballroom, June 7, 1978. No gymnastics, no sequined pants - just awesome rock 'n' roll.

Valedictorian of punk's inaugural class of '77, the artist formerly known as Declan McManus had maintained his reputation…entire summary

I saw this tour the night before in San Jose and then I recorded the San Francisco date the next night from KSAN on my reel to reel tape machine.
Nick Lowe opened and was followed by Mink DeVille before the angry young man, Elvis came on and rocked the house. It was a great show.

Saw Elvis in '77 or '78, (that time of my life was "clouded") and Rockpile with Dave Edmunds and maybe Nick Lowe opened. Elvis and the boys played the Jai Lai Fronton in Fern Park, Fl. WOW, They all rocked! Edmunds and Rockpile were probably the loudest band I ever heard, just incredible. Elvis played just about everything from My Aim Is True and many from the new album This Years Model, what a show!! Thanks for the memories WV!

Elvis Costello is one of my faves of all time. This concert captures his energy well. As has been stated elsewhere in the comments, I think the keyboards are mixed too loud at the expense of hearing Elvis' guitar. I never got the chance to see Elvis in these Attractions days, but I have since seen Elvis a couple of times. Once was a special invitation-only show in NYC where he played solo for the evening. It was insanely great to hear him render these songs with just him and his guitar. What an amazing talent this man is!

I recorded this on my 8-track from KSAN when I was in high school, and wore it out! Hearing "I'm Not Angry" and the Clash's "I Fought the Law" on the radio sold me on punk and alternative.

I was at that show and it was my first taste of alternative music as I was pretty much into rock and roll. The show consisted of Nick Lowe, Mink DeVille and then Elvis and the Imposters. What a great show and KSAN broadcast it live over the air. Too bad that radio sucks so bad these days that they can't do that anymore. Man I miss KSAN. Awesome show though.

I was at this concert and was blown away by it. As I recall, The Jam opened, then Costello, then the Ramones. Can anybody verify this?

I saw this tour at Santa Barbara and it was a life changing experience for me. I thought the days when a concert performance would stay with me for three days were over. Mink Deville opened and were pretty good. The tour bus had broken down in Ventura and was late beginning so they went directly to Elvis. He opened with Mystery Dance and then yelled at the yellow jacketed security guys for busting heads down in front. So they left! It quickly turned into a general admission show and Boy, did he deliver! Sang "Alison" a capella at the edge of the stage and finished up with "I'm not Angry." On the way home, down the 101, the tour bus sped past us with Elvis sitting by the window in the back, reading a newspaper! What a Night!
