Concert Summary

David Lee Roth once quipped that most rock critics like Elvis Costello because most rock critics look like Elvis Costello. Here's a show submitted for Diamond Dave's approval, recorded at the Winterland Ballroom, June 7, 1978. No gymnastics, no sequined pants - just awesome rock 'n' roll.

Valedictorian of punk's inaugural class of '77, the artist formerly known as Declan…entire summary

Just to update blmills, EC didn't play riverfront in cincy in 78, they played at Wilson Auditorium at the University of Cincy, along with Nick Lowe, Mink Deville and Rockpile. Couldn't have been 400 people there. After the show they all sat aroung on stage and talked to the few of us left. Great show, been an elvis fan ever since. flippinbruce

I saw EC on this tour at the Cleveland Agora- I've been a fan ever since. The guy who turned me onto Elvis was Don Rose who went on form Ryko Music out of Boston. Imperial Bedroom is also my fav album, but almost all of them rank up there. The sessions he did with Bacharach are amazing too. One of the things I always thought was how tight his band was- granted Elvis was a great songwriter, but the Attractions live were amazing. Tip- if you're a true EC fan get ahold of the acoustic sessions he did with Pete in the early 90's Cool stuff.

Imperial Bedroom is my favorite album, since I have become an adult, out of necessity.

This will always be my favorite Costello period. Saw this tour in Canada. Pure raw energy, but it was Costello's superb integration of other musical influences like reggae, crooning, 60's pop, etc. that made him a real talent in that barrage of punk during the late 70's. The three-man Attractions were amazing - one of the best garage-bands ever!

I saw him play this set at the Locarno Ballroom, Bristol UK (the biggest kitcherama venue you've ever been to still complete w glitter ball but then doing punk and post punk gigs) in '78. A blast furnace set that took the paint off the walls

This show - Tampa Jai-Lai Fronton, man does that take me back. His first U.S. tour and we drove down from U of Fla in Gainesville 'cause we just had to be there to see history being made. Great triple bill - Mink deVille, Rockpile and then Elvis. being a veteran of the 'stadium' shows at the time (Yes, ELP, Clapton) I was stunned at how much sound they got out of a few Fender amps. Tulu memorable, and I am so grateful to W'gang's Vault for being able to relive it!
