Concert Summary

In 1973, prior to recording the fourth album under his own name, Elvin Bishop relocated from California to Georgia. Signing up with Phil Walden's Capricorn Records label, then the epicenter of Southern Rock, Bishop assembled a new band and got to work on an album that would reflect a new sound. Another GREAT show that I attended...I had caught the Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfield bands open for Paul Butterfield back in Feb of '73, and just had to make it to this show...James Cotton opened and then Roy Buchanan put on a clinic on how to make a Telecaster wail...Roy didn't need to jump around on stage, much to the dislike of those who don't appreciate pure talent, and that night, some moron threw a tennis ball at Roy and it bounced off his guitar...Roy just raised his head, glared out at the audience, lowered his head and picked away...it was the last time he played large halls in the bay area and that was better for the true lovers of his craft because after that, he only played the small venues, in which, he was awesome...OH YEAH, Elvin was smoking hot that night too, as always...
