Concert Summary

Although Elvin Bishop was born in Glendale, California, he grew up in the Midwest on a farm with virtually no exposure to African-American culture or music. At the age of 19, however, he won a scholarship to the University of Chicago. It was there that he first heard authentic blues music and, in time, became friends with members of Sonny Boy Williamson's band, who taught him guitar and history of the blues. It looks like the 6 Kingfish tracks have been removed...looking forward to seeing them properly identified elsewhere.

Tracks 7 thru 12 (CC Rider thru Around and Around) are Bob Weir and Kingfish (Dave Torbert, Matt Kelly, Chris Herold, Robbie Hoddinott). Weir was back to performing with the Grateful Deadby this time, so the Kingfish show is likely not related to the Elvin Bishop show, just a mis-labeled reel. Could it be from the King Biscuit Kingfish album (4.3.76 NYC)? The mix and crowd noise seems to suggest it, but the songs aren't in the correct order and Young Blood isn't on that album. It isn't 10.4.75 Winterland (available elsewhere on the site). Could it be Winterland 12.19.75, or 12.20.75? They played both nights, and the Jerry shows are up on this site. Interesting--inquiring minds want to know.

That's absolutely Weir- on track 11 also- one of the most distictive voices ever.

Is there an uncredited performance from Bob Weir (of the Grateful Dead) on tracks on lead vocals for 7, 8, & 9? It sure doesn't sound like Elvin Bishop or Mickey. New Minglewood Blues would be another clue to support this.
