Slide guitar genius Elvin Bishop learned from local guitarist Smokey Smothers while a blues-crazy student at the University of Chicago in the early 1960s. Bishop was a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band prior to his solo efforts as the Elvin Bishop Group. After the breakup of the Butterfield band, Oklahoma native Bishop headed west to San Francisco where he became a regular at Fillmore West jam sessions and performed with B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and a handful of others. During his career, Bishop recorded several hits with Capricorn Records including "Travelin' Shoes" and "Fooled Around and Fell in Love."...less
