Concert Summary

This late show from Elton John's 1986 two-performance stand Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheatre doesn't vary too much from the early show, also available at Wolfgang's Vault, but there seems to be a little more energy during this set. Elton forsakes some of the tender love ballads to focus more on the rockers, and rockers, there are plenty. He also offers a healthy dose of good ole' pop hits, especially in his renditions of "Philadelphia Freedom" and "I'm Still Standing." The best tracks are still the timeless hits: "Rocket Man," "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting," "Your Song," "Candle…entire summary

Saw all 3 Southern California Elton John concerts in 2010 and they were great! Made up for the 3 times I saw him in the late 1970s and mid 1980s in the L.A. area (I drank A LOT, until getting sober in 1989 and I did not remember early concerts at all; total blackout but what is making me crazy is the only venue I remembered was the Inglewood forum) So...I will never remember but at least I can retrieve the other 2 forums! I don't know why this is getting under my skin; half my life was a blackout from '75 to '89 and I don't want to remember most of it but I'd like to youtube the concerts I don't remember so I can see them sober

Just fantastic to hear this again. Some of the songs performed were similar in arrangement to the rock set of his MSO shows in Australia and the video release at the time had garbage sound. It's so great to hear these. Elton may have been as high as a kite during the late eighties concerts but he could still play a rockin' piano. In some respects I prefer his live stuff then to now as now he's just so "going through the motions".

This concert and the 1982 Saratoga one are impeccably done.

i was a huge fan of his. saw him in lincoln and dallas in his prime. these concerts bring back huge memories. would have liked to have heard some tunes from captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy. as i recall at that time it was the only album to go directly to no. 1. thanks
