Concert Summary

Jump back in time with this amazing Elton John performance, the first of two shows he gave back-to-back at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles in 1986. By this point in his career, Elton had such a massive catalog of hits that he could leave many of them out of his setlist, and fans would still find it was an all-encompassing evening of his music.

Although he plays some of the newer songs in this show including "Tonight," "Better Off Dead," "Paris," and "Restless," it is the hit songs that make it such a memorable performance. And there are plenty of them: "Rocket Man,"…entire summary

This was at the height of Elton's marijuana use...and I think it shows a little. Not that I don't love Elton or this show but his vocals seem a bit more relaxed than usual. He usually enunciates a bit more. And I think he BS'd his way through ONE HORSE TOWN. He missed half of the lyrics. (just an observation) And yes mojopie...those songs are hardly "new". Also, from what I've read, the doctors said that his heavy marijuana use contributed to the growths on his vocal chords.

This is a couple of months before his voice went, you can hear him straining even then! Superb concern none the less, possibly the best version of Someone saved my life tonight I've ever heard!

Elton ia a true legend. Regardless of what was going on behind the scenes ,Elton always gave the concert goer ,the best performance he could and respected free speech ,even if he didn't agree .Thats class. "If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." -Noam Chomsky Thanks Markcus

  • mojopie | Saturday, August 23, 2008 | 12:46 pm

Tonight, Better Off Dead and One Horse Town were hardly new songs. By '86 they were already a decade old.
