Concert Summary

This is an important concert because it reunites Elton John with arguably the best band he ever worked with: Davey Johnstone on guitar; Dee Murray on bass and vocals; and Nigel Olsson on drums and vocals. This band was the group that remained his studio and live band for nearly six years, before splintering after 1975's Captain Fantastic album. Most…entire summary

Wow, don't think I have ever heard a live version of Ticking. Not your typical Elton song.

thanks vernie. you can read more about our archiving process, and specifically how we end up with so many tapes from one concert, over on the blog:
    http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/blog/index.php/2009/08/one-show-many-tapes/

as far as the Faces go, we've already put up all of the concerts we have logged from them.

    Thanks Dopeburger
It's always cool to hear some behind the scenes info regarding the source tapes. In an unrelated subject is there any chance you have anymore Small Faces, Faces tapes possibly from Bill Graham's archives? I know they played both Fillmores quite a bit in the early '70's. Thanks alot!

hey vernie - when this show first went up, the entire thing was sourced from mono tapes. later, we found different tapes for the same show in the archives and replaced the audio...but the newer source didn't have a version of PW on it for some reason (a decision made in the 80s, not by us). we left the old version in for the sake of completeness.
sorry for the delay in getting back to you - just got back from the holidays. happy new year!

Hey dopeburger/wolfgang staff: any reason why Pinball Wizard is in mono while so far the rest of the recording is in stereo?
    Thanks

The 1982 Saratoga live concert version of Bennie & The Jets has got to be one of the best ever. Magnificent.
