Concert Summary

Date Night 1976: It's Valentine's Day at San Francisco's legendary Winterland Arena and Electric Light Orchestra, with their heavily orchestrated pop-sound, is supplying the soundtrack.

Electric Light Orchestra was at the top of their game when this concert was recorded. The band was right in the middle of a run of Top 10 hits that started in 1973 (with their second LP, ELO II), and continued throughout the rest of the '70s. ELO (which,…entire summary

It should be noted that Lynne wasn't an original member of the Move. A double CD of the pre-Lynne Move playing live at the Fillmore has just been released in England. That said, the two Move albums with Jeff Lynne (Looking On & Message from the Country) are two of my favorite records of all time and very eclectic for the time (or any time, for that matter).

On the album the song fire on high if you played it backwards it would say " music is reversable but time isnt turn back turn back. I think I wore my album out playing it backwards.

I have to agree with astardiva: the entire "El Dorado" is one of the finest -- and most underated -- and most neglected -- pieces of music from the first half of the 70s.

ELO never seemed never seemed terribly interested in playing it live. I saw them 3 times in that period, and the selections from "El Dorado" in this Winterland concert was all I ever heard them play.

I suspect (and I'm ready for some disagreement here!) that Jeff Lynne couldn't hit the same notes live that he was able to hit with repeated takes in the studio.

If asked to name 5 of my favorite all time R&R albums, Eldorado would always be among them. Saw a concert at Universal Amphitheater in LA early 1970s.

saw them at the garden in NY for the " out of the blue " tour back in the 70 s I think, with the clam shell space ship. when it closed up at the end I was so disapointed it did not open up again. They did give everyone a free metalic poster of the space ship that night. Great show. I cant believe he had to cancel his tour in 2003 for lack of ticket sales. I could not wait to go. Jeff Lynn ..Musical genius..Thank you Jeff. please come to ny one more time... I will be there!!!!!!

Saw these guys in the summer of 78 in Toronto at the CNE with the Little River Band and they were phenominal. The spaceship type stage, fantastic lights and excellent sound provided for one sweet summer night. I can't recall who the third band was for the show but it wasn't for a poor performance. Simply saw a lot of shows that year.
