Concert Summary

In many ways, this recording is the best existing early example of Edgar Winter in performance, fronting his own group. Winter's gospel roots, along with those of his co-lead vocalist Jerry La Croix, help take their distinctive music to a level well beyond what any other white bluesmen were doing in the early 1970s. The group consisted of some of the most talented Texas white blues and rock musicians, and Edgar's multi-instrumental abilities and uniquely expressive voice are immediately captivating.

Great to hear Smith & LaCroix are still active.

Both Jerry LaCroix and Jon Smith were in a band called The Fabulous Boogie Kings in Louisiana which is still active. I am the guitarist in that band and Jon plays with us quite regularly and Jerry does 3 or 4 shows a year with us. They are both still in top form and a pleasure to share the stage with.

I think Radford started playing with the Winters when Derringer started doing his solo thing

Pretty sure the guitarist on this set is Rick Derringer. Radford is a great player in his own right - have seen tape of him on tour w/ Johnny. When I first saw Johnny in 1973, Radford wasn't with them - he was ill, I think. But Winter, Randy Jo Hobbs and Richard Hughes still put on a great show. A bonus was the opening band - James Gang, with Roy Kenner on vox and some guy named Tommy Bolin on guitar.

Yes, Floyd Radford was the guitarist. He went on to play with Johnny Winter during the "Captured Live" shows. Saw them in 1975, boy could he and Johnny rock, some of their best work. Floyd then hung up his axe for a bit, got his engineering degree and went to work for Lockheed Martin.

Saw The White Trash on the road back in '73 with Canned Heat and Jerry LaCroix's legendary bluesy/soulful voice still resonates today along with his harmonica solo's. Edgar was the guts 'n' the glue and the driving force. They're double live album is still a classic w/Derringer and Edgar's brother Johnny tearin' it up and double/twin lead guitar. They came and went without commercial success way to fast....Schnydes

It's a shame these guys didn't make more records. What a fine, fine band.

I love Edgar! And Rick Derringer! And Johnny Winter! And Dan Hartman! Some great screaming by Edgar on this one! By the way I have the LP by Tin House. Edgar produced it, I think, and plays on some of the tracks. I played a tune called 30 weight blues from it in my last band.

I don't remember the guitarists name ,but I remember that he played with the opening act ( Tin House)and then came back out to play the rest of the show with Edgar's band , he was Asian.
