Concert Summary

For years, guitarist Johnny Winter had one of the most electrifying live albums ever released, when he put out Live Johnny Winter And in 1971. This incredible live recording of the original Edgar Winter Group recorded at The Mosque Theater in Pittsburgh, PA in April, 1973, just may surpass that album as one of the most powerful kick-ass performances ever captured on tape.…entire summary

I hear bits and pieces of Montrose's first album. He was getting ready to leave and form Montrose at this point. Derringer took over when he left, thus ending this kick-ass lineup.

I had the pleasure of meeting Edgar when he played in Tampa with Ambrosia (whom I do some work for). After soundcheck, the band introduced me to him. I said "I hope that you're going to do one of my all time favorite songs tonight." When he asked me what that was, I told him "Keep Playing That R&R". He replied that he hadn't taught the band the song (Ambrosia was backing him), and actually offered to take the band back onstage and teach them. What a truly nice guy!

I'm a longtime Edgar, Dan Hartman, and Rick D fan! Fantastic to find this site! I'll pass it on to another huge fan. Saw Edgar in San Diego a couple of years ago at our local Del Mar Fair. Saw Rick about 10 years ago at the Catamaran hotel here. Got to talk with him after the show. Really nice guy! Waiting for Edgar to ever put out his Rockin' the blues CD.

LOVE EDGAR !!! SHOOK HIS HAND IN "THE NORTH WOODS" (in a 'dive' in Maine), upon hearing him for the third time. Derringer opened the show, IN GRAND STYLE,and Edgar FINISHED - NO SLOUCH EITHER - (to me, two GODS were in the house. BUT (and it still bothers me to this day) I came away with the impression that if a select few in the crowd had not been ACTING LIKE DAMNED FOOLS, Edgar and Rick might have joined forces for at least one encore song (you can easily guess which song I wanted to hear them play together) - BUT the few aforementioned MEATHEADS ruined any chance of that, for sure - ESPECIALLY ONE GUY WHO WAS SCREAMING AND REPEATEDLY SHOUTING TO EDGAR "you're great" WHILE ALSO UPSTAGING HIM. To that guy I can only say...THANKS A LOT,ASS****! I wanted to punch him out, but that would REALLY have ruined the show. MR. WINTER, IF YOU SEE THIS... as if you have the time, I deeply apologize for that man's actions, along with the rest. They apparently had either no respect for you as a person, let alone your many talents; nor your band and their talents. I was VERY fortunate to witness your performance in Boston in 2006 with Ringo - and you remain phenomenal. As I said in Livermore Falls, Maine, in that 'dive' - "THANKS FOR THE MUSIC, MAN!" "KEEP(YOU KNOW)" AND STAY STRONG. Yours, Kenny
