Concert Summary

Earth Quake was a Bay Area-based blues rock group that eventually fell on the edges of the early punk scene of the late-'70s. Originally formed in 1969, the band was quickly picked up by manager Matthew King Kaufman (who would later guide the career of the Greg Kihn Band).

The group was influenced heavily by the '60s blues rock movement of the Yardbirds, Cream, and Jimi Hendrix, along with the blues masters themselves, such as Muddy Waters and B.B. King. Kaufman was able to sign them to A&M in 1970, and after a steady year of touring the band released its debut self-titled LP in 1971.…entire summary

Bless you for finding and adding the 2 Earth Quake concerts. They were my favorite band and I saw them around 50 times, mostly at the Keystone club. I first saw them late in 1975 so it is a real treat that you have a '74 show also. I miss them - they should have been bigger than Aerosmith if things had gone their way. RIP Gary.

Hey Kynyrd, we're hearing those guitars as well. We've added Phillips to the personnel. Thanks for listening!

corry342,Thanx for the quick check and reply.I thought about a possible Tuesday night show on this set after I chimed in. I also saved all the handbills that were handed out after the shows.I have them in acid free portfolios.I found one that had Earthquake headlining November 26 , 1974,with the other bands you mentioned. This site is the best site on the net. Thanx,David.

Thats great stuff. I wonder why the other other guitar player Gary Phillips isn't listed. I swear I hear both guitars.

I'm also sure it was 11/26/74. I happened to see that show as a young man. The show by BGP was called "The Sounds of the City" to showcase local talent. John and the boys were rockin that night! Two dollars well spent.

Murthe1-2, I checked the dates. While your diary is correct, and Lou Reed/Arthur Lee & Love/Earthquake played Winterland on 11.22.74, Earthquake also headlined on Tuesday 11.26.74. Other acts were Grayson Street and Soundhole (Van Morrison's backing band). The Tuesday night shows were for local bands, and cost a dollar or two. If you think about it, an hour is a long set for an opening act, so it makes sense that this is from the night Earthquake headlined.
