Poster Art Q & A

Description

The Mothers of Invention played the Fillmore East with the barely veiled threat, 'last [New York] appearance 'til peace.' The Fillmore East scheduled Friday and Saturday night shows at 8 and 11:30 p.m., and the original plan was to clear and clean up the theatre in between shows. The schedule soon evolved into an opening band set that started closer to 9. The headline group appeared on-stage around 11:30 followed by the second band, and the opening band closed the show. On this timetable, concerts frequently lasted until 3 o'clock in the morning. The new arrangement allowed the promoter to sell two shows but mix the audiences, and according to Joshua White, "Nobody seemed to object..."

The postcard was only printed once before the concert. It measures 4 1/4" x 6 5/8".

Promoters often created postcard versions of many of their concert posters and used them as promotional mailings. The postcards in Wolfgang's Vault are unique, small-format pieces of art that make a fascinating addition to any collection.
