Poster Art Q & A

Description

Byrd gave Grace Slick an electric guitar in his modern interpretation of an Egyptian wall painting. Slick didn't play guitar, but Byrd thought "... it looked nice so I gave her one." Arthur Brown, a wildly theatrical British vocalist, rounded out the evening. The idea for the poster came from one of Byrd's art-class assignments at Carnegie Tech.

The 1st printing poster was printed before the concert on rough uncoated index. Below and to the left of the black line of the bottom section is a "fantasy unlimited © 1968, bill graham, n.y., no.6" notation, and this original poster has a red, orange and green border. It measures 13" x 22 1/4".

The 2nd printing was produced in 1998 by RCA records to promote a live album from the original concert. The fantasy unlimited credit in the bottom section is shifted to the middle underneath the black line. This reprint uses orange, yellow/orange and green ink, omitting the red of the 1st printing. It is on slick coated stock and measures 13" x 22 1/4".

Wolfgang's Vault owns one of the world's largest collections of original concert posters, featuring hundreds of rock posters, political posters, sports posters, comedy posters and others that were previously unavailable to the general public. Virtually all of our concert posters are in mint condition, and many are signed by the headline performer or the graphic artist.
