Poster Art Q & A

Description

BG001 advertised Bill Graham's first show at the Fillmore and is the first poster in the legendary BG poster series. Unique in its simplicity, BG001 lacks the stylized lettering and imagery which would later become the signature style of San Francisco rock posters. This pre-Grace Slick version of the Jefferson Airplane headlined a list of performers that included many from the legendary Trips Festival held earlier that year.

The extremely rare 1st printing is on yellow stock and bears "Design Peter Bailey East Wind Printers" in the bottom left corner of the poster. This original printing measures 14 15/16" x 18 7/8" and pre-dates the concert.

The 2nd printing also pre-dates the concert and is printed on yellow stock, but this reprint is slightly larger, measuring 15" x 19". There is no artist attribution on this printing.

The 3rd printing was printed on white index stock after the concert. At the bottom left corner of the poster is "Creative Lithograph Co. No. 1." There is no artist attribution anywhere on the poster, and it measures 14 5/16" x 19 15/16".

Wolfgang's Vault owns one of the world's largest collections of original concert posters, featuring hundreds of rock posters, political posters, sports posters, comedy posters and others that were previously unavailable to the general public. Virtually all of our concert posters are in mint condition, and many are signed by the headline performer or the graphic artist.
