Poster Art Q & A

Description

Bill Graham kicked off his 1967 Summer Series with an incredible lineup at the Fillmore. Headlining the show were Rock and Roll's biggest new stars, the Jefferson Airplane whose album, Surrealistic Pillow, was climbing the American pop charts. Last on the bill behind Jazz guitarist Gabor Szabo was a relatively unknown guitar player named Jimi Hendrix who was fresh off a smashing performance at Monterey Pop Festival. Hendrix took the town by storm; Graham had to admit "... he was supreme." This was the first show to offer tickets with the same graphics as the poster.

The postcard was printed once before the concert. It measures 4 5/8" x 7".

There were also some pre-concert double-sized mailers printed that were conjoined with the BG068 image (see BG068/069). They measure 7 1/8" x 9".

Promoters often created postcard versions of many of their concert posters and used them as promotional mailings. The postcards in Wolfgang's Vault are unique, small-format pieces of art that make a fascinating addition to any collection.
