Bill Graham anticipated the national trend towards huge outdoor rock concert events that answered new industry demands: the bands' for maximum profit with minimum fan exposure, and the fans' for maximum band exposure at minimum cost. In 1973, Graham introduced San Francisco to his first Day on the Green at Kezar Stadium. The event, and the many others held at the Oakland Coliseum, was special and combined Graham's familiar balloons and posters with giant sets and urgent medical care for the sensorily-sated in a theatre-like atmosphere. Day on the Green became code for outdoor music immersion.
This item was part of Bill Graham's personal collection and shows some damage from the May 7, 1985 firebombing of his San Francisco office. The attack stemmed from Graham's open and honest criticism of President Reagan's visit to Bitburg Cemetery published in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Pelons are extremely rare "practice pieces" for the early t-shirt designs. Before production was initiated, the image or design was tested on cotton cloth or burlap to determine the color and line accuracy of the piece. The earlier examples, those dating from the '70s, are generally the only pelons run on burlap. Few of these "tests" were preserved once the design was deemed acceptable and the shirt went into production.

Please allow seven days for our photographic prints to ship (these products are produced to order and require a high degree of printmaking skill and attention to detail). All other items are shipped within three business days of when your order is placed. We do not ship on Saturdays, Sundays or national holidays. All shipping delivery times are in addition to this order processing time.
If your order is going to be delayed due to out-of-stock items, weather conditions or any other factors, you will be notified by email within 48 hours of your order being placed. You will be given an approximate ship date at that time and will have the option of canceling your order, or retaining the order with its new ship date.

Most historic series posters are of a size to fit in flats. Posters shipped in flats are surrounded by 2 chipboard inserts. Oversized pieces require tubes and we ship in tubes with a .187 wall – the thickest tube used for such shipping. All photographic prints are shipped in highest quality heavy-duty reinforced cardboard flats. If you have ordered more than one printed item, the items will be packaged together and separated by high quality interleave paper to prevent scratching.
