Poster Art Q & A

Description

David Singer and photographer Jim Marshall designed one Aretha Franklin poster that was used for concerts at two different venues. BG272-A advertised the Diva's one-show-only performance at the Century Plaza Hotel in L.A. on February 27, 1971. The next weekend, Franklin plus the entire billing from the L.A. gig appeared at the Fillmore West for a three night engagement.

The 1st printing poster (see BG272) has a hot pink rectangle at the bottom of the poster in which the concert and ticket outlet information is located. It measures 14" x 21" and was printed before the concert.

The 1st printing A variant is differentiated by its white rectangle in which the concert and ticket outlet information is located. It measures 13 15/16" x 21" and was also printed before the concert.

Wolfgang's Vault owns one of the world's largest collections of original concert posters, featuring hundreds of rock posters, political posters, sports posters, comedy posters and others that were previously unavailable to the general public. Virtually all of our concert posters are in mint condition, and many are signed by the headline performer or the graphic artist.
