I recall when I saw him at Fillmore West in 1970 wearing his gris gris outfit and playing only guitar. I cannot forget his guitar style, a haunting and pschyodelic genre that was and still is unique. He was an incredible spectacle that had to be seen to be believed. His later music did not, in my opinion, ever reach the heights of the music he played that night.

Yeah I know gris girs. You are not mistaken Dr. John was around and popular in the 60's. any of his albums or greatest hit recordings should have it.

I swear I listened to Dr. John in the late 60s, but can't find any proof of it. Has anyone heard of "Gris Gris Gumbo Yah Yah" - I couldn't have made that up. Would love to know where to find a copy or just hear it once again... memories are very hazy, but I have a good feeling attached to it.

When I saw Dr. John, a little before this, it was at an outdoor concert in Madera Ca. From where I was standing it appeared he was reaching into his jacket pocket and tossing out loads of confetti on the people up front. A friend of mine, who had been up there , came back where I was to show me a small plastic wrapped sealed package with a type written (like a fortune cookie) message. It said Peyote. He said many were in the handfulls of confetti he tossed out. My friend only caught ONE...Rats! LOL Great Show WV!!

This is 30yrs ago and there's no agism. Could've been recorded the day before yesterday. Are there any recordings of concerts of the great STUFF band from back then ? I know they played the Bottom Line and Mikell's in those days. Amir FaSaad
