Concert Summary

During the 1980s, Dokken became and remained one of the biggest metal bands worldwide. This show was recorded while Dokken was opening for the Scorpions, just prior to recording their breakthrough Elektra album, Tooth and Nail. The material from this show is mostly from the band's U.S. debut - simply titled Dokken - and while it shows the direction the band was moving in, occurred prior to the real musical chemistry between singer Don Dokken and guitarist George Lynch solidified.

Dokken is a good singer…entire summary

Most of the lyrics & music were composed by Lynch & Pilson. Don Had a good voice yes. But he did not contribute near as much instrumental & lyrical writing as did Lynch & Pilson. Pilson sang most of the demos before Don recorded them.Pilson was the least credited memeber of the band in my opion. He contributed a great deal without much reconition to most fans knowledge. I think Lynch & Pilson should have moved on together after Dokken. They together wrote most of greatest & well known songs of their career together. In my opion they where the soul of the band.

Yeah, I liked Dokken a lot when I was in high school in the mid 80's. Now that I am older and my musical tastes have matured, when I think of Dokken, I hear one of the greatest Rock singers ever, a good (if wildly inconsistent after leaving Dokken) guitarist, an almost talentless drummer and bass player and a band that should have kept on going if isn't wasn't for Don's massive ego not fitting through a doorway. To be honest, ZEBRA was light years ahead of Dokken when it comes to songwriting, even if George was a flashier guitarist. Hell, Y&T for that matter were better songwriters too and never got their due since they released "Summertime Girls" and killed their career. Well, I don't want to come off like I am bashing them, because I think they are one the greatest hard rock acts ever, but I can't help put my comments into perspective with the wisdom and musical sophistication that age brings. Thanks to Wolfgang's Vault for bringing this to us. -Dave

Savagebongos, errrr the band wouldnt be called Dokken if DON DOKKEN wasnt in the band. Don has anamazing voice, a great song writer. He and George both have huge egos and cant do much without the other. Time to grow up boys, your music is better WITH both of you.

George Lynch has always beena quality player. His best work is live, but he knows how to add subtlety in his studio albums. Just awesome.

Don Dokken was the weakest thing in this band. Would've been fun to see what this band would look/sound like if it had Eric Martin instead... Eric would've been pushed to better stuff & George would forbid weakness. It would've worked...not for very long...but it would rock while it lasted.

Mr Scarey rules, not to many better. He's gotten better with time, sounds just as good now if not better. He has a CD called the Scorpion years where he covers some of the greatest classic Scorpion songs recorded, a must buy.

just a pity dokken and lynch can't work together because they definetly bring out the best in each other, but two massive ego's rarely ever seem to work although i liked the erase the slate material with wes beach
