In November of 1999, the hard rocking anti-establishment band Rage Against the Machine played two shows at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. Graphic artist Winston Smith thought his poster design represented the band perfectly. However, the legal council of Bill Graham Presents took one look at the poster and foresaw lawsuits by the largest corporations in the world. Although the posters were printed, they were never distributed to the public…until now!
In the early 1990s, members of Bill Graham Presents decided to commemorate Bill's legacy with a collection of neckties whose designs were gleaned from swatches of the eclectic and electric poster art of the 1960s and 70s. Created with images from the historic BG Poster Series, they offer a dizzying array of patterns and highlight performers including Led Zeppelin, Cream and Jimi Hendrix.
