Concert Summary

One of the more high profile music festival events of the late 1970s was held in Ontario California and billed as California Jam #2. A sequel to the original 1974 California Jam, the 1978 event featured a who's who of the rock music elite, including Aerosmith, Santana, Foreigner, Heart, Ted Nugent, Mahogany Rush, Bob Welch, and Dave Mason. ABC presented a television special of the event and a double album of highlights was released on Columbia. The King Biscuit Flower Hour was also on site and broadcast additional excerpts nationwide in the months following the festival.

we sat right up front at Cal Jam 2. It took me 6 hours to get out of the parking lot after 2 days at the concert. 500,000 people- the announcer said, "I-10 is a parking lot", meaning cars were PARKED on I-10 going into L.A. - wow.

I believe Dave Mason is the most under appreciated musician of all time. Thanks for posting. I agree with Craig, his latest release is awesome. Check it out.

I had green barrel and purple microdots at Caljam2...wow...it was every bit as good as it seemed! Dave Mason, who I saw in Phx last year, is a MASTER!

I love this website! and thank god your filling out the Dave Mason vault. Dave continues to play 80-100 shows a year and sounds better than ever. This recording captures one of Dave's best bands....and that whole era. That band disbanded soon after. His current band is phenomenal, and includes Gerald Johnson on bass, for the first time in years. If you havent picked up his latest release-26 lewtters and 12 notes, do so, it's amazing!
