Concert Summary

Over Halloween weekend of 1986, Bill Graham presented two monumental nights of music at Madison Square Garden. The November 1st concert featured Santana and Ruben Blades headlining a night devoted to the cream of the crop of Latin artists, but Halloween night was the most memorable night, as not only did Santana and Blades perform, but this evening would see the…entire summary

Is this only an excerpt from that night or is this the complete performance? Does anyone know?

Either way they sound terrific for them all being in there 40's.

Despite what Crosby says, printed interviews have always stated "Helplessly Hoping" was the first song the three harmonized together on.

The first song CSN sang together was 'Helplessly Hoping' not "You Don't Have to Cry".

I went to the press conference for the Crack Down shows (met Lou Reed in the elevator), and even helped out a little by writing a couple of radio spots to promote the show on the FM station I was working for at the time. That was fun because I got to call Wolfgang (Bill Graham) on the phone for script approval. There was never any mention of CS OR N at that press conference, let alone all three. I was never that big on post-Duane Allman Bros., so I opted to go see Hot Tuna and Go Ahead at the Capitol in Passaic on the night of this show. Only today did I learn CSN played at the Crack Down show. Pissed me off. I think I still would have gone to the Capitol, but I would have liked to have had the internal debate! Just as well, since this set is so short. Reminds me of the time Led Zep finished their three songs at Live Aid, and Wolfgang was trying to regain control of a crowd that was DEMANDING an encore for the first time that day. He finally gained control by promising a reunion of CSN AND Y, which was the first time that had happened since 1974. So we all shut up. Then they played two quickie acoustic numbers and hightailed it out of there. I think it was Teach Your Children and Find the Cost of Freedom. Whatever, it was WAY too short. Then they brought out Duran Duran. ARGGHH. Seems like their Crack Down appearance wasn't a whole lot longer, but then again, both were benefits, and so to be expected, I guess. Oh well, at least I get to hear the show now! Thanks to Wolfgang's Vault.
