Concert Summary

1969 was a fertile year for Creedence Clearwater Revival, witnessing the release of Bayou Country, Green River and Willy and the Poorboys. When John Fogerty ran the show, the results were often stunning, and his leadership strengths are quite evident in this live recording from the Fillmore West. It showcases CCR's two essential strengths: wonderful, hook-laden rock songs and focused yet extensive jamming. CCR was…entire summary

everyone was blown away at this gig,not only did they kick ass all night,John's voice left us knowing that he was one of the best singers in the SF scene, the board mix is nowhere as good as their sonic blast live, it was all JohnF.in our ears, the brains and creative power of this great gig.

Wow. I was too young to see these guys during that tie. THey might sound better live than in the studio. What a great concert. Best rock and roll band of all time, in my opinion.

In an interview many years ago Fogerty said that when he mixed the songs he would bring a car speaker into the studio for playback. He felt that his music was best listened to via that small slightly tinny medium and he worked to get the sound just right. Listening to this raw sound on my computer speakers makes me understand just what he meant. CCR was balls to the wall driving music best listened to, ripping down the road, a cold frosty one in one hand and a bubbly blond in the other. Don't get much better than that. He is a better performer today than 40 years ago. If you have an opportunity to see a show -don't miss it.

it is kind of sad to think that a lot of people just think of CCR as a dance band, all they know are the radio hits, dont get me wrong, those radio hits are just as good to listen to now as they were back them, I love them all.....I have been a fan CCR since 1968, but what drew me to them the most was songs like keep on chooglin, born on the bayou, walk on the water,it is the abandon that fogerty sings and plays on these songs. simple? maybe, but very powerful and personal, this version of suzy Q is by far my favourite version, bluezy voice, great guitar and the well timed haunting feedback, I could listen to this over and over agian. but it is the instrumental that I wish more people could hear. this band could kick out the blues just as well as any band or any other performer could. nuff said

Saw and heard CCR at The Fillmore East the same month and year of this show. Ainsley Dunbar Retaliation and Spirit opened for them! Loved Creedence then, still love their sound now. Thanks a bunch, Wolfgang!
