Concert Summary

Founded by drummer Ginger Baker when he recruited Eric Clapton, followed by Jack Bruce to form a new band, Cream would quickly become one of the most influential groups of the 1960s, changing the landscape of blues and rock 'n' roll simultaneously. Volcanic onstage, Baker and Bruce were equally volatile offstage. Despite antagonistic history between the two, Clapton convinced them to set aside their differences and Cream was born in 1966, becoming the prototype power trio, fusing the blues and rock 'n' roll into a powerful new brew. I attended this concert. Even took photographs, and Clapton's clothes match my shots. What a great concert!!! We stayed for both shows. Bill Graham always had three bands on the bill. So, for 3 or 4 dollars, you could watch about 6 hours of incredible music. As a teenager, the Fillmore, Winterland, and the Avalon Ballroom was the place to be on the weekends.

It truly is amazing as to what Cream did for the elder blues artists. Finally they got the recognition they deserved. I know about the other artists that helped bring blues to the forefront but seems everything just took off for them as soon as Cream broke through. There sound is as fresh today as it was in 67. It truly is a shame where music has gone today. I remember reading papers like Rolling Stone and Melody Maker back in the day. They use to have musician polls. These guys were always on top. I have no idea who the great musicians are today. Let's also not forget Tom Dowd and Felix Papalardi.

I agree with supsailor as I memorized this solo and it, in my opinion, is in the top 10 greatist live solos.

The version of "Crossroads" fron this show IS the same take that appears on "Wheels", as is "Spoonful"
