Concert Summary

Recorded barely a month before the band's much ballyhooed "Farewell Performance" at the Royal Albert Hall in November 1968, this October 4th show provides sound documentation of the monumental impact Cream had on the world of rock 'n' roll in the late 1960s and early '70s.

They were the first super group, before anyone had even used the term, featuring former members of the Yardbirds, Manfred Mann, Alexis Korner's…entire summary

This was the gold nugget for me finding this oakland portion, as these particular five tracks arent on any officially released live cream cd. Man this is great. Must have been amazing to have been on the concert hall floor. Jacks singing is great here. Clapton's power chords, must have hit you like a psychadelic wall, if you were there. Fantastic. I hope they officially release more live cream material such as this.

Also my first Rock Concert at the age of 13, thanks to my older brother who I'm sure was not 100% thrilled about dragging me along. Totally blown away by the music and scene. We had seats about 12 rows back in the center. I was a young drummer at the time and was lucky to catch one of Ginger Baker's drumsticks after he completed his amazing, hand-bloodying drum solo and bounced a set of sticks off the drums into the crowd.

This was my first rock concert ever, at age 13, and I will never forget it! There are songs missing here, though - they started with White Room, and I remember they did Politician as well. Oh well. Great to have access to the audio after all these years.

This is the Cream I remember back in the 60's.
Seen them at Brandeis Unnversity, Waltham Ma. 1968.
Great audio here, One of the 5 greatest band of all time magic.

Wow! So that is what I heard that Oct. 4 night! I had just got back from Vietnam a week before and now I understand more clearly why I was blown away that night. I was the last fan to see them that night. The band came out of the back of Oakland Colliseum to get into the limozene. I must have looked like a young madman coming over to shake their hand and congratulate them. All they did was hurriedly slam the doorlocks down. I still waved goodbye to them as they rode off into the night. I lived in the EastBay 18 miles from Oakland and was able to go to many concerts there and all over SanFrancisco. That month (I think it was; I was stoned all the time) I saw Jimi Hendrix at the Winterland--up close. It was a crazy time when opening acts at Fillmore West would come on out into the audience and we'd all dance together to the top billing. Incredible times. Thanks so much for this site. Wayneman5

I never understood why more live Cream wasn't released. They never played the songs the same way twice and I know I would buy different versions. So would a lot of other people.
