Concert Summary

This recording was made at the Los Angeles Forum in 1968, at the conclusion of the band's final U.S. tour. Within five weeks, Cream had played their farewell show at the Royal Albert Hall; Jack Bruce would embark on a solo career; and Clapton, along with drummer Ginger Baker, would eventually form the monumental but ill-fated super group Blind Faith.

But for a time, in 1968, it was a long climb up the hill of rock 'n' roll and Cream sat firmly at the top of the heap. The…entire summary

This is the best music ever. Everything before is building up to it; everything after a letdown.

Yes, but why is there no decent concert footage? The farewell concert film was average, stupid film editing and that patronising voice over!

My college roommate coaxed me into going and we went to the Friday night concert (the 18th) and it was my first rock concert. I had just taken up bass and within a week I had switched to a Gibson EB-3 just like Jack's. Still have it. As I remember, wasn't Deep Purple the opening act? Anyway, a life changing night. What's wonderful and remarkable is that they're all still alive and functional!!

I was there in the LA Forum to hear my first rock concert and I LOVED it. My god, what an introduction to psychedelic rock blues. My only complaint was that it was Cream's Farewell Tour. I later saw Clapton play with Blind Faith, Derrick and the Dominoes, and various incarnations of his own band; Cream was the most memorable.

Cream played in Philly Friday night November 1st 1968 at the Spectrum. The music still echoes...

Had the good and great fortune to cover this concert as a photographer for the LA Free Press. I'll never forget Ginger Baker's bright green satin shirt. As I recall this was the last US appearance for Cream. Terrific. Would love to hear the rest.

These two and the SF recordings are the same tapes as Wheels of Fire, Live Cream and Farewell Cream, which are better quality and complete. However it's great to hear this stuff again, with the somewhat raw edge, and hopefully going to a wider and youger audience. There's still no-one to match them! Check out the change in Crossroads from 6 months earlier at Oakland...
