Concert Summary

At the time of this recording, Country Joe McDonald, a mainstay on the San Francisco politics and music scene, was about to enter the Fantasy Records recording studios on Ninth Street to record his acclaimed Goodbye Blues solo album, which was released in early 1977. A number of the songs in this set, including the poignant "Blood On The Ice," appear on the album which also featured remakes of songs that had originally been recorded on McDonald's early, pre-Fish solo albums.

Funniest thing I ever saw at Winterland was the night in 1975 Peter Walsh, towering over Bill Graham, told Bill to "F--- off, we're going back out." Country Joe had the audience screaming for another encore and Graham wouldn't let them go back out. He wanted to get the Jefferson Starship on. We were sitting in the front row of the balcony just back stage and sitting about ten feet from the whole confrontation. Hilarious. Peter Walsh was a big dude and Bill Graham rather short.
