The Warfield Theatre, on Market Street in the heart of San Francisco, is a velvet-curtained, chandelier-lit performance hall with seating arrangements that can accommodate either the bejeweled classical music connoisseur or the raucous rock concert crowd. Built by Marcus Loew and named for his friend, actor David Warfield, the Warfield opened in 1922 and featured silent films, vaudeville and entertainers including Al Jolson and Charlie Chaplin. Now, after several renovations, the Warfield is a unique nightclub venue that can host up to 2,300 patrons.
