The backstage is a fortress, each inner door demanding a further credential of access. Also known as silkies or satins, backstage passes were the first created insignia of such privilege. The collection shows a world where the cognoscenti wore their sticky-backed silkies high on a thigh or breast, easily flashed for official scrutiny but obscured from the hoi polloi, and the best advice was to "... look like you belong." Laminates, a later form of backstage access, are business card-sized passes worn around the neck usually indicating a higher rank than patches worn on lower portions of the body. The Vault collection includes many hard to find band, promoter, and stage crew examples and includes those "laminated" by the production company for the show staff and the "un-laminated" pieces that were never encased in plastic....less
