Bill Graham was the first “Impresario of Rock.” He began producing rock concerts in December of 1965 in San Francisco and for thirty-five years, was the pre-eminent concert promoter in Northern California and the United States. The man and the company he built staged over 29,000 shows by the year 2000. In the mid-seventies, Graham began presenting huge stadium concerts (known as Day on the Green shows) � extraordinary lineups with incredible spectacle. He started hiring photographers to document the shows. From then on, Graham hired the best local rock photographers to document what resulted in a photo archive encompassing 100,000 images of musical history and virtually every major artist of the period.
