Concert Summary

By the time Cold Blood recorded this rare radio broadcast as part of the "Live at the Record Plant" series, they had essentially become a completely new band from the 69-71-era line-up that had been a staple at the Fillmore West. Only lead vocalist Lydia Pense, keyboardist Raul Matute, and bassist Rod Ellicott remained from the original group, and the sound of the band had gone from a hard-hitting horn-based blues band (designed to compete with …entire summary

I have loved this band for years. Never got to hear them live, so I am happy to hear this concert. Sounds awesome!!! Thanks for releasing it for sale. Your Concert Summary writer or fact-checker has made two errors: "Valdez in the Country" was written by the late, great DONNY Hathaway, not Donna. Let's give him all his props, as he deserves them, and more. Could you all fix that, please? Also, the tune "Down To The Bone" was on the same LP as 'Valdez', the exquisite "First Taste of Sin", and I believe the LP was released in 1972, not 1973 or 1974. Thanks for fixing those errors, too.:-) And also for the excellent concerts!

As good as their recordings were, they were even better live. Cold Blood - A-bleeping-mazing band. I got a chance to hear them back in 1973 at Andrew's Amphi Theater on the University of Hawaii campus. The absolute most amazing 2 hours of live music I have ever experienced -- and no, while there was a lot going around, no one passed it to me so I was straight the whole time. On this night, didn't need any of that...it was hard to believe that a band could sound so tight in a live performance. I think this was supposed to be a farewell concert -- or maybe they were going to take some time off after this performance. The best $8.00 (the cost of a walk-up ticket) I ever spent.

wow! the sound on this is fantastic and the performance as well! God bless the late Gaylord Birch, Max Haskett and Smith Dobson - i don't know how many others are still with us but Lydia still sounded great when i last heard her a few years ago and i see Mike Sasaki around. Great band!!

Great to find this. I will download this for sure. I first heard of Cold Blood in Richmond VA at the University Of Richomd in about 1972. Our band 'Chess' opened for them. We were a soul, R&B band..with girl singer and simply overpowered by the fabulous band from CA. Great musicians, Lydia was awesome. Front of House sound went up a few notches...and the stadium rocked. So much respect for this group. randy powell (eventspr@aol.com)

I remember hearing Cold Blood outside of Cappuccino High School Gymnasium in the spring of 69' I believe. They raised the roof man I asked my friend, who is that, he said that's Cold Blood and Lidia Pence is singing. I wish I had been allowed to buy a ticket, I was satisfied just to sit there anyway until the facility ask us to move along. Dam they/she was good

Always a great San Fran band, great tunes, great arrangements, Lydia always at her soulfull best. The new stuff is ok but she sounds better in Doc Kupka's Strokeland label. I am covering Cold Blood in my 11 pc band.........i have to tell tell the truth when people ask if it's my stuff!!

I went to Youngstown,Oh in '73 to see Cold Blood and Buddy Miles. Much to my regret CB was unable to make the trip. Buddy put on a great show and i got to meet and sing with him in Cleveland a few years ago. The highlight of my musical career for sure! I am very glad to see Lydia and the new gang back making music as they have always been one of my favorites. this is really cool stuff>
