Concert Summary

Formed in the late 1960s in England, this blues-rock band was originally called the Climax Chicago Blues Band because of a keen interest in the authentic blues records coming out of the windy city. Led by saxophonist Colin Cooper, the group initially had a sound not unlike the original Fleetwood Mac when guitarist Peter Green was at the helm. Ironically, both the Climax Chicago Blues Band and Fleetwood Mac released blues rock albums in 1969 with very similar titles: Play On (CBB) and Then Play On (FM).

This recording, which features only Cooper, guitarist Peter Haycock…entire summary

Was a fan since FM Live but didn't see them until they blew Peter Frampton off the stage in Philly in 1979. I have a vinyl radio recording from that tour and they were at the top of their game then. Awesome concerts here too.

Saw them a dozen times or so starting in 72 (saw that Passaic show too......awesome!) while at Villanova, you guys are ALL right, they never seemed to get enough credit. Every single musician I know to this day that knows this band says they were always one of the most talented yet underrated bands they've ever seen.....hopefully we'll get to see Peter Haycock if and when he does the TRUE BLUES tour in the US !

The first time I saw these guys they played the Moore Theater in Seattle with Journey (before they became pop with Steve Perry). Incredible show. It was about the time of FM Live. Turned me into a lifelong Climax fan (of their stuff up through Gold Plated). Listen to them still. Saw them 5 years in a row - couldn't help it, they kept coming back. One show Bob handed Derek Holt a doobie. Bob actually got a hold of Derek years later somehow on-line and he remembered the exchange.

The review above states that both Climax Blues Band and Fleetwood Mac released albums in 1969 called "Play On". This is only partially correct, Fleetwood Mac's album was called "Then Play On".

Love it!!! especially Pete Haycock's playing. If you are looking for him, check out his new CD Pete Haycock's True Blues featuring Glen Turner. Also watch for US tour dates.. Can find him on You Tube also. When you look, please add comment telling him to hurry up and tour the US

I saw the CCBB in 1970 in west London. At that time is was straight blues and amazing. Their album "A Lot of Bottle" is one of my all time favorite blues albums.
