Leaving New Orleans to immerse himself in the thriving folk and blues scene around Cambridge, Massachusetts in the late-1960s, Chris Smither soon proved himself to be an eloquent songwriter, masterful guitarist, and a gifted singer, with a rich, emotionally charged voice. Chris passed through my town a few months ago, played a small bar. I knew his name from song writing credits for Bonnir Raitt so went to check him out. Wow - so sorry it took me 35 some years to find this guy. Beautiful accoustic guitar, gravely vocals, great original songs, and terrific covers. Buy everything you can find.

What a great show. One of the best on the sight, and I'm half way through so far.

Track 11 is not Leave The Light On, it's Lonely Time which is also on the other Chris Smither concert found here at the Vault, though that show runs at the wrong speed (too fast, sharp) so that Chris sounds more like Arlo Guthrie than himself!! (Too bad Chris didn't do his humorous intros to songs here--guess he was trying to fit as many tunes as he could into his opening slot.) But where else than at WV can you find such "lost" treasures?!

I've just seen Chris Smither perform for the first time this year, so this early live recording is really something special to hear. "Leave the Light On" itself is worth the journey (over 35 years) and all the covers are totally original and performed in a unique musical style. Another good discovery for the VAULT!

Just as I remember him at the Turk's Head on Charles Street, Boston. He awed and delivered to all in attendance. A legend on his way then.

Chris Smither is THE MAN! He was about 26 years old at the time of this show and he still has the chops to pull and audience out of their seats!
