Concert Summary

During the summer of 1970, Bill Graham presented an extraordinary series of concerts at Tanglewood, the renowned classical music venue located in the scenic Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. At the time, presenting rock music in a classical venue was a surprising and precarious step to take. To many, hearing The Fillmore and Tanglewood in the same sentence equated to "when worlds collide." Much like his approach at the Fillmores, Graham's "Fillmore at Tanglewood" series presented diverse handpicked triple bills, but with the added advantage of a beautiful open-air venue and plenty…entire summary

Amazing show...this is the third or fourth time I have listened to it. As someone else commented, the sound does seem heavily focused on Lee Loughnane's trumpet...and he sounds wonderful. I was at a function where he spoke about the band's history, and someone asked him how much he still practiced. He answered that on show days it was pretty much just warm-up exercises, but on non-show days he practices 3 hours. Can you imagine that, after all these years? He said he would not be able to hit the notes he does, without that.

No question that Terry Kath was a rare talent, and when he died, the band suffered as a result...it was nearly the end of them. But the newer band members round out the sound very well. I still go see them in concert whenever I can, and they still sound excellent. The horn section and Robert Lamm on keyboards are all original, founding members. Go see them, you won't be disappointed.

It is quite possible that Terry Kath was the greatest technical guitar player of all time. Induction into the Hall of Fame, they should build a Shrine just for him. Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying " I'm good but that Cat blows me away"> The guy is the real deal, Listen and Learn,

excellent sound quality and playing; has hotter sound than Carnegie Hall album! also more enjoyable than the studio versions because it's rougher not sloppy, just more intense. Terry Kath singing like Ray Charles and wailing on guitar; also listen to the drummer Danny making the whole band groove with great dynamics.

This is possibly one of the best effing live shows ever. Too bad most people don't realize this is
required listening. Where has this been all these years? Now I can blow out what's left of my
hearing. In Danny Seraphine's book he talks about the british press giving them a hard time
and Terry Kath telling them "FU Eric Clapton Sucks". After listening to this, in comparison
he was right! Sorry Slowhand. To the people at WV we gave you some grief over the video of
this show. My apologies. Nice work on this.

I cannot believe CHICAGO is NOT in the Rock n Roll HALL OF FAME! They just announced this year's nominees, and some of the acts are NOT EVEN HALF as talented. Some are just PR acts, put together JUST for the laughs, the advertising, or the hell of it. Visit "INDUCT CHICAGO INTO THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME" on FaceBook, and join the effort to OVERCOME the artsy-fartsy "rock writers" bias against one of Jazz-Rock's premier bands still on the road!

This is awesome stuff! It's really too bad that Jann Wenner's little fiefdom in Cleveland doesn't see fit to induct Chicago. Their so-called "Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame" is a joke and will continue to be so as long as it's controlled by this clueless collective of Jann Wenner and cronies.

I bought this the other day. As an fyi, the flac files have excellent sound quality; this could be an official release.
