Concert Summary

Along with Columbia Records label mates Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago spearheaded the "horn sound" of the early 1970s. Striking a balance between the big band and jazz elements of a pronounced horn section with the more traditional rock 'n' roll foundation of a four piece guitar-bass-drums-keyboard unit, Chicago would prove to be one of the most prolific bands of the decade and enjoy remarkable career longevity. Since they emerged in 1969, with the now legendary Chicago Transit Authority double album, they maintained a near-locked position in the Billboard Top 40.

Man, they're good. Would I sound naive if, even after playing bass for years, I really didn't know that Peter was THAT good? Wow. The whole band tears it up.

the band sounds great - the horns in particular, but the vocal harmonies are often non-existant. And the prominent bass is annoying - who was at the board? who mixed this thing? They got some 'splainin' to do! :-) Oh heck, we were all blown out back then anyway...... But the set list is terrific. And the brass - did I mention how phenomenal they sound? Those guys had the chops.....the instrumentals are amazing. I'm gonna buy this baby. Thanks for releasing the tapes.

Chicago are true Musicans. I think they are the best ever. I wish we could see these concerts on the computer. Maybe they will get this some day. Sincerely, kel0858

I had the chance to see them twice during the early 70's (once w/ Madura, who put on a phenomenal set of their own that night in Vamncouver)and all I can say is Terry Kath was an incredible and, in light of the Jimi Hendrix comment,a very underated guitarist as well. They may have come across as a 'democratic' band but, make no mistake about it, at this point in time it was Terry's band in both sound, soul and spirit!
