Concert Summary

These recordings are from the final night of a run that featured Chicago Transit Authority opening and closing a show that also featured sets by The Youngbloods and Colosseum in between. These remarkable sets capture the band riding high on the great success of their debut album and performing that material, along with some of the songs destined for their second album, which they were recording in Los Angeles that same month. Many of the songs that established…entire summary

The notes are very precise. When Al Cooper left BST that was that. But that first album was monumental (as were the Blues Project as far as turning things upside down to what is really rocking). The first Chicago pinned you to the wall. I used to make people listen to it (and I had the total best sound system). But, look what Al Cooper and Steve Gatz have done since.Chicago kinda chased some fading star dust. Bless them. I heard them loud and clear at these shows in SF. I still remember going to see the Youngbloods but guess what....fun times for all.

in 1970 when i was 18 years old, i heard CTA and thought DAMN! WHAT A BAND! when terry kath 'went away', it seemed as though the soul of the band went too...the stuff they churned out after about 1972 was ABSOLUTE CRAP!! i HATED their music after that!!, they became a joke with friends of mine when they kept coming out with album after album of pure, slicked-up TRASH!! i, (like someone else commented!) believe terry kath WOULD have indeed rolled over in his grave had he heard what the band became! -i bought the tanglewood download, which truly is GOOD! -probably get this too!

CTA TOP OF THE LIST FOR HOF, NO BAND EVEN COMES CLOSE TO THIS WAY OF MUSIC

  • KeWuxun | Saturday, June 18, 2011 | 3:38 pm

High school, 1970 or 1971, hitchhiked from Canton, OH, to Mt. Union College in Alliance, OH, to see CTA. No ticket. SRO, so got in anyway. To this day, it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

I think Chicago would have been in the HOF long ago if they would have broken up when Kath died! What passes for the band these days is a shame. That being said, the fools that vote for the HOF are full of SHT.
