These recordings are from the final night of a run that featured Chicago Transit Authority opening and closing a show that also featured sets by The Youngbloods and Colosseum in between. These remarkable sets capture the band riding high on the great success of their debut album and performing that material, along with some of the songs destined for their second album, which they were recording in Los Angeles that same month. TERRY AND PETERS VOCALS ARE SOME OF THE BEST EVER IN POP/ROCK MUSIC

  • RichSad | Saturday, September 26, 2009 | 5:15 am

Wow. Terry has always blown my mind (no pun intended). These are great historical artifacts that attest to the genius of the man. The original lineup IS Chicago. I know it is "in" to bash Chicago, but have the harshest rock critic listen to these shows at decent volume and they'd join the ranks of Hendrix and others saying Terry was one of the best ever. RIP sir.

Listen to these burning sets and tell me they would sound the same without Danny Seraphine on the drums? NO WAY! They have never sounded the same since he was booted. I love his drumming period! These are monster recordings indeed!

Happy 62nd B'Day today to Mr. Jimmy Pankow! I've seen these guys about ten times over the course of the last twenty-three years but would have loved to see them with Peter Cetera and Terry Kath (whom Jimi Hendrix came up to him one time and told him Terry was a better guitar player than he was! Imagine that!

This is AWESOME! Terry Kath to me is one of the greatest guitarist ever! He has been in my top 10 rock guitarist of all time. After hearing this he is in my Top Five. This concert gives me the stuff to convert the non believers to his proper status. Man when I listen to him play I could only imagine if he and Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) would have jammed together in 1969. Man! the stuff they would have brought out from one another. The thought of that alone makes me shiver!

Mercy. mercy..."Intrduction" just killing - great chops flying, esp. Danny Seraphine. Would've loved to seen/heard him in a double-drumming situation w/Bobby Colomby. A real embarrassment of riches. Thanks for posting this show.

GREW UP IN CHICAGO AND WENT TO THE SAME HIGH SCHOOL AS TERRY DID AT SOME POINT NEVER SAW THE BAND LIVE ALTHOUGH THIS IS A WONDERFUL REMINDER AS TO THE SATURDAYS IN GRANT PARK WOW

I remember CTA at Fillmore West. So accessible...the guys cruised around the crowd between sets. The music was intense, powerful and big...with three voices coming at you from all over the universe. Lamm with the deep, sincerity....Cetera soaring but nowhere near the crooner he became...and TK just flat-out burning with raw guitar and ragged vocals that always seemed to nail the song. The horns...and lightening quick Danny Seraphine on drums. Wowza.
