Concert Summary

Virtually nothing is known about this band other than the fact that they were together for five years or so, and originally came to San Francisco (Grass Valley, CA to be exact), by way of Atlanta, Georgia. Musically, they were entrenched somewhere in rock 'n' roll's no man's land, between the flower power improv-psychedelia of bands like Quicksilver and Big Brother and the Holding Company, and the guitar-driven combustion of Southern Rock bands such as the Allman Brothers, the Outlaws, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. On some tracks, they sound a lot like the '72-73 era Doobie Brothers.

Kenny Ladenburger (Carrie Nation drummer and my friend since about '66) stopped by last night with the 'Through Time & Back Again' Carrie Nation CD. He'd given me a tape back in the mid 70's of most of the music on it, but it has way too many splices and had been played to death so was delighted to get a CD. What a great band! So glad to find this 'new' music of Carrie Nation. And soooo glad to see that they were appreciated as much as I appreciated their music. I will have the CD available for automated request on my (free) Internet radio station GoodTunesRadio.com beginning 10/14/09.

Hey Ya'll (and Troy): Remember me? San French who rented the High St. house where WE ALL lived~worked & played. Yes, Charlie & I formed Carrie Nation(originally) and Crabb & I wrote Silver Shells one day ...I @ the piano, he at the lyrics....it was a great moment as were they all @ High Street.Just sayin'......for histories sake. PS~ Charlie and I came up with the name Carrie Nation when he came across an old 50's police street manual. It had a list of the names for street drugs ~ the one for Cocaine was "Carrie Nation"...and we said "that's it". So the name was born. Just sayin' again. Love, The History Man ~ San French

What a great opportunity to have a home base for everyone who was connected to this band to be able to come together and share some rockin good memories. To the guys in the band and the friends associated with them I have fallen out of touch with, a great big hi and hope everyone is doing well. I received an email on myspace music page that this site was here. You guys should recreate, I have always thought that. Mary Joan Winter/Atlanta

Unbelievable, after 33 years this shows up. I had the privilege of playing drums (one of the great unwashed before Kenny LOL) with Carrie Nation. These people were ahead of their time, the powers that be just overlooked them. I wish I knew where these folks were because I would Like to re-connect as I have many of the original tapes, even the "live" tape at the Armory. On a more somber note, the only person I have stayed in touch with over the years is Marty Bone and the last I heard he is not doing well with medical problems. I haven't been able to confirm this so... Carrie Nation was a great talent that did not get a chance in the old world of recording, but today? I wish all of you well. Remember, I KNOW HOW to put the top down on a Buick, Dammit!

What a find! I was also a Carrie Nation follower in Atlanta. These songs have stayed with me for years and it's so great to actually hear them again. It reminds me of a great time at the Bistro in Atlanta. The last time I heard them I drove to Blacksburg, Va. in the snow with no heat and loved every minute. It was nice to see that Doc and Billy had visited the site. I pray the rest of the guys are doing well.

Thanks for having CN here. I was part of their Atlanta fan base. My band Mantra opened for them once or twice and I later played in bands with Marty and Hugh. It was awesome to find this recording here. If it only had my favorite songs Moses and Cupertino it would be perfect. Thanks Carrie Nation, we still remember you in Georgia! Paul O'Daniel
